Curriculum Vitae or Resume
Curriculum Vitae, Abbreviated as CV, is also called RESUME. The term 'Curriculum Vitae' is British English term whereas 'Resume' is an American English Term. A resume is a two or three pages document that summarizes your skills, experiences and qualifications for a position in your field. Oxford dictionary defines it as:
"A written record of your education and the
jobs you have done, that you send when you are applying for a job."
CV includes yours professional and educational
achievements, work experience, abilities, references, list of books, articles
that you have published and course that you have taught.
Purpose of a
Resume
A resume is a personal marketing document that
communicates your career objective and value to a hiring company, organization,
institution etc. A strong resume should be carefully planned and developed in
an appropriate format.
A resume reflects the complete achievements of a
person in various fields. It enables the employer to form some idea about the
proficiency of the applicant hence a resume should be written cautiously,
highlighting the best possible virtues of an applicant.
Guidelines for
writing good resume
The main function of the resume is to attract the
employer hence the following guidelines should be followed:
1. The
Resume should well written, sentences and paragraphs should be short and
simple.
2.
Write
your name at the top in bold and large font.
3.
Keep
the sections lined up, consistent and should be drawn systematically.
4.
Use
an Arial or Times New Roman font.
5.
It
should provide all necessary information, relating to the applicant’s education
and experience.
6.
For
the fresher it is vital to highlight their special skills and activities,
proficiency in language, typing/shorthand skills, computer skills etc.
