 Job Application/ Covering Letter

Application letters are written when someone needs a job. An application letter is a kind of sales letters through which the candidate offers his services to be hired. Job applications are of two types:

1. Solicited (Drafted in response to the employer’s advertisement).

2. Unsolicited (Drafted on candidates own initiative).

Whenever an applicant applies for a job, he will have to draft an application letter and send it along with the resume. An application letter without resume, and, resume without application letter is incomplete. They should always be sent together.

Characteristics of an application

1.     Introduces the applicant to the hiring organization.

2.     Introduces the applicant’s resume.

3.     Highlights the applicant’s positive and personal traits and achievements.

4.     Shows how the applicant’s special talents will benefit the organization.

5.     Emphasizes how the applicant is right for the job by matching the requirements.

6.     Asks for an opportunity to be interviewed by the organization.

This is with reference to the advt. dated 24 Dec., 2021in the Times of India for the teaching posts in various departments. I wish to apply for the post of Asst. Prof. in the dept. of Humanities. I possess the requisite qualifications and experience for this job.

At present, I am working at ITM University, Gwalior. I am teaching Communication Skills, English literature, making presentations and taking Personality Development Programmes with B.E. students.

I have been here for more than four years and feel that this is the right time for me to change. I am seeking a position that may offer me greater responsibility. 

I hope you will give me an opportunity to be interviewed where you may know me better.
